Uganda Travel Tips
Visa
All visitors require a valid passports hold tickets for return or onward
travel, sufficient funds for stay
Countries whose nationals do not require a visa include:
- All European Union countries.
Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Barbados,
Belize, Botswana, Burundi, Canada, Comoros, Denmark, Djibouti, Eritrea,
Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, Gambia, Greece, Grenada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel,
Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Korea Republic, Kuwait, Lesotho, Libya, Madagascar,
Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, New Zealand, Norway,
Oman, Pakistan, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, Saudi
Arabia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Somalia, Sudan,
Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, UK (being a
citizen of the United Kingdom & Colonies), United Arab Emirates, USA,
Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Countries whose nationals do require a visa include:
- All not mentioned above.
Visas are issued at Ugandan Embassies and High
Commissions
ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: A passport valid for three months beyond the
date of entry, visa and evidence of yellow fever vaccination are required.
Visas are available at Entebbe Airport
or may be obtained from the Embassy of the Republic
of Uganda. Airline companies may
also require travellers have a visa before boarding. Travellers should obtain
the latest information and details from the Embassy of the Republic
of Uganda in their respective
countries.
Health
Yellow fever: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from
travellers over 1 year of age coming from infected areas.
Malaria:
Malaria risk: predominantly due to P. falciparum - exists throughout the
year in the whole country. P. falciparum resistant to chloroquine and
sulfadoxine - pyrimethamine reported.
Recommended prophylaxis: mefloquine.
It is recommended that visitors take precautions against typhoid, bilharzia,
hepatitis and cholera in particular.
AIDS/HIV is prevalent.
Diseases caused by unsanitary conditions are common throughout the country,
and untreated water should be considered unsafe to drink.
Hospital facilities are generally poor and outside the major cities, medical
facilities are limited.
Comprehensive medical insurance is essential and it is recommended that
visitors carry personal medical supplies with them.
Weather
Uganda enjoys
ideal weather conditions ranging from the warmth of the lowland areas to the
coolness of the Kigezi highlands.
Uganda is sunny
most of the year with temperatures rarely rising above 29 degrees
The average temperature is about 26 degrees centigrade, with a maximum of 18-35
degrees and minimum of 8-23 degrees depending on the part of the country.
The rain season is March - May
Light rain season is November - December
Wet seasons are March - May and October - November
Dry seasons are December - February and June - August
Rainfall ranges between 500mm to 2500 mm
Humidity is between 70% -100%
Packing for Uganda
The most practical items to pack are:

shoes
